Stocking stuffers from GORE
GORE C3 GORE-TEX INFINIUM Stretch Mid Gloves – $60
• Store for Gore gloves at Amazon right here.
GORE C5 GORE-TEX Thermo Gloves – $95
GORE Sleet Insulated Overshoes – $120
PEZ sez: I’m penning this from our home down in SC the place daytime temps can nonetheless stand up into the low 70s (F) and “chilly” is taken into account 50-something (F). So that is stuff I’m not utilizing now however will once I head again north to Babylon on the Potomac once I’m courageous sufficient to climate the weather and do some winter driving.
I’ve a pair C3 GORE-TEX INFINIUM Stretch Mid Gloves which have served me properly for a few seasons now. Fortunately, GORE hasn’t tried to repair one thing that ain’t broke. For me, these are versatile gloves that I can put on when it’s simply “chilly” (low 50s F … as somebody from extra tropical Filipino heritage, I are inclined to get colder extra simply) to “chilly” (I’ve worn them on rides all the way down to the excessive 30s F) — I do know everybody’s tolerance for chilly is completely different so YMMV. These aren’t thermal insulated gloves however the windproof GORE-TEX INFINIUM materials retains the windchill off my palms and I discover that’s extra necessary than thermal insulation per se. That mentioned, these aren’t what I might name “deep winter” gloves.
The forefinger on the C3 Stretch Mid Gloves is touchscreen suitable
For those who want gloves for extra frigid situations, then the C5 GORE-TEX Thermo Gloves are undoubtedly for that. I don’t ski anymore, however they jogged my memory of ski gloves. They’re thermal insulated with a gentle fleece-like lining. And so they’re windproof. The palm and fingers (together with thumb) have a leather-like floor for higher grip. The tradeoff for elevated thermal insulation is that the C5 GORE-TEX Thermo Gloves are barely “bulkier” with much less tactile “really feel.” Additionally, I discovered the match (measurement S for me per GORE’s measurement information) on the “cosy” aspect however to not the purpose of too tight or constricting.
Because the identify implies, the GORE Sleet Insulated Overshoes are additionally for extra frigid situations. As shoe covers go, they’re pretty “sturdy.” A technique to think about them is as a ski parka in your toes. PrimaLoft materials offers thermal insulation. And the GORE-TEX exterior is each waterproof and windproof. Some good touches are abrasion resistant materials within the toe space, a wind flap behind the zipper, and the elasticized cuff is DWR (sturdy water repellent) handled to maintain the moist out. I in all probability gained’t do an entire lot of outside winter driving (particularly since I’m not driving Freezing Saddles — a enjoyable and foolish outside winter driving “competitors” — this winter), however I might anticipate the GORE Sleet Insulated Overshoes to maintain my toes as heat as heat will get once I’m courageous (or is that silly?) sufficient to enterprise out in actually chilly climate.
NOTE: The Sleet Insulated Overshoes don’t have plenty of “stretch” (they took just a little bit of labor to get on and have been a reasonably tight match on my US measurement 9 highway sneakers), so ensure you get the dimensions proper.

12speed Doormate Storage Door Opener – $39.99
PEZ sez: In case your favourite bike owner has an automated storage door, this could make for a nifty reward/stocking stuffer. It appears to be like so much like a Shimano bar finish Di2 junction field, nevertheless it’s a storage door opener designed to slot in a bar finish.
Programming the Doormate was fairly simple. Took me all of about 5 minutes.:
- Utilizing the equipped programming security pin, press and maintain the PROGRAM BUTTON (inexperienced arrow) till the LED (purple arrow) on the entrance of the distant management activates
- Press and launch the REMOTE BUTTON (yellow arrow) the designated variety of occasions in your storage door opener (Ren at 12speed let me know that my Liftmaster was the equal of Chamberlain)
- Press the PROGRAM BUTTON to exit programming mode
- Press and launch the LEARN BUTTON in your storage door opener (seek the advice of your house owners handbook)
- Press the REMOTE BUTTON on the Doormate till the storage door opener lights flash (or two clicks are heard)
- Voila!
The Doormate works precisely as marketed. Push the distant button to open/shut the storage door. 12speed claims a spread of fifty toes for the Doormate. Utilizing the tried and true technique of stepping off yardage like I do once I play golf, I discovered I used to be in a position to open and shut my storage door from fairly near that (perhaps 48 toes give or take … so shut sufficient for presidency work). Principally from the place my driveway meets the highway.
NOTE: I haven’t put in the Doormate as a bar finish as a result of (a) it requires re-wrapping the bar and (truthfully) I’m too lazy to try this in the intervening time (perhaps when it’s time to switch the bar tape I’ll give it a go) and (b) it could imply having to forego certainly one of my KustomCaps cranium bar finish caps that I like. For now, the Doormate is sufficiently small and lightweight sufficient (0.5 oz/16 gr) to simply stash in a jersey pocket.
